Job summary

ABB invites applications for an R&D Team Leader to drive development of ANSI Grid Components, Instrument Transformers, and Sensor tech platforms. You will lead an interdisciplinary team, align with product and manufacturing strategies, and ensure project milestones meet quality standards.

The role requires 12+ years in electrical product development, 2 years of leadership, and 5+ years in strategic operations with project management. Onsite in Pinetops, NC up to 20% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
• Minimum of 12 years in product development and design of electrical equipment (MV/HV Instrument Transformer & Sensor, Cutouts, Switches, reclosers).
• 2 years of prior leadership/managerial experience.
• At least 5 years in Strategic Operations combined with Project Management (20% technical, 80% supervisory).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work collaboratively in a project team and independently.
• Experience with ANSI/IEEE, UL, IEC, NEMA standards and knowledge of protective relays and protection in power systems.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% (mostly domestic).
• Must have work authorization to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Support Technology Center Manager in planning and managing R&D activities and resources.
• Lead cross-functional design reviews, analyze concepts, and evaluate cost-effectiveness of designs.
• Plan and optimize the project portfolio, capacity, and resources for R&D projects.
• Coordinate with local business unit management to align R&D with market and product strategies.
• Oversee project execution using internal and external resources and partnerships.
