Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an undergraduate student intern to assist in characterizing materials used in battery applications. The role emphasizes how surface area, porosity, and thermal properties affect battery performance, with a focus on chemical engineering, chemistry, or materials science.

You will collaborate with staff to design and execute experiments, organize samples, collect data with multiple instruments, and synthesize findings in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint while

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program in a science, engineering, or math field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 required.
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours/week during the academic year and up to 40 hours/week in summer.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff to plan, design, set-up, and perform materials characterization.
  • Organize and prioritize samples.
  • Collect data using instruments (surface area, porosimetry, DSC, TGA).
  • Data processing/interpretation in MS Excel and reporting in MS Word/PowerPoint.
  • Maintain a clean/safe workspace and follow safety procedures.
  • Weekly checks of safety equipment and adherence to ES&H and related processes.
