Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Cranston, RI is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our advanced R&D team. You will assemble and run test setups, verify designs against standards, and support calibration workflows across the site, ensuring safety, precision, and reliability.

You will work with engineers, interpret drawings and standards, maintain records in asset management systems, and coordinate external calibration with ISO 17025 vendors. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, fabrication, or test setup construction.
• Experience with hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, test standards, and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.).
• US Citizen and/or permanent resident.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, and modify test setups, fixtures, and prototypes.
• Perform light carpentry, plumbing, and basic fabrication to support test setup construction.
• Interpret engineering drawings, agency test standards, and work request criteria to ensure accurate setup and configuration.
• Manage equipment records within the Fluke MET/TEAM asset management system.
• Coordinate the shipment and receipt of equipment to and from ISO 17025 accredited external calibration vendors.
• Maintain calibration documentation, replace failed or broken calibrated items, and communicate equipment availability to engineering.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and hoists.
• Collect, record, and organize test data with strong attention to detail.
• Establish and sustain effective working relationships across a variety of teams.
