Job summary

AbbVie South San Francisco seeks an experienced EHS professional to guide R&D safety matters and training for employees and contractors. The role collaborates with local EHS teams to implement and align programs, ensuring a safe working environment, regulatory compliance, and protection of people and the site.

The position focuses on developing and maintaining EHS programs, enabling safe lab moves, inspections, and continuous improvement across safety metrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Engineering, or Chemistry with 5+ years of EHS experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years of EHS experience.
• EHS professional certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, and managing cross-functional teams.
• Ability to establish measurable project goals and implementation plans, balance conflicting work demands, and develop action plans.
• Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and Cal/OSHA, DTSC, BAAQMD and EPA regulations

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, procedures, and training site personnel.
• Provide subject matter expertise in chemical safety, biosafety, waste management, ergonomics, and other site safety programs and initiatives as assigned.
• Serve as a technical resource in Critical Safe Work programs, providing contractor safety and Critical Safe Work support for major and minor construction and renovation projects and lab moves.
• Investigate near misses and incidents; identifying root causes and recommended corrective actions.
• Track and analyze EHS metrics to determine trends to drive continuous improvement.
• Support EHS regulatory inspections and internal audits, including follow-up on findings and corrective actions.
• Work with R&D training coordinators to update training content in our e-Learning System,
• Lead EHS risk assessments of site/lab processes and equipment and collaborate with stakeholders to develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Lead laboratory Gemba walks with site leadership, document findings, action items and prepare and distribute related summary reports.
