Job summary

Amrize is seeking an Equipment Operator at our Manquin, Virginia quarry to safely operate excavators and haul trucks. You will support earthmoving tasks, load materials, and follow site plans with a strong emphasis on safety.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of heavy equipment experience, understand OSHA standards, and can read blueprints. The role requires outdoor work in varying weather and teamwork to maintain project timelines.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment on construction sites.
• Strong understanding of excavation safety procedures and OSHA compliance standards.
• Safely maneuver around underground utilities and structures to avoid damage during digging operations.
• Use specialized excavator attachments (e.g., hydraulic breakers, thumbs, or augers).
• Assist with trench shoring and proper slope cutting to maintain safe excavation conditions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for routine equipment inspections and minor repairs.
• Physical stamina and strength for outdoor work in varying weather.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness for precise operation.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators to dig trenches, foundations, and other earthmoving tasks safely.
• Operate a haul truck at the quarry to transport and move aggregate and other materials.
• Load and unload materials using the excavator bucket.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
• Coordinate excavation activities with site supervisors and crew.
• Follow blueprints and safety guidelines to meet project specs.
• Monitor sites for hazards and report safety concerns or malfunctions.
• Backfill and grade areas after excavation; keep logs of hours and maintenance.
• Promote safety culture and adherence to health, safety and environmental policies.
