Job summary

Maine Drilling & Blasting Inc is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator/Driller Trainee (Quarry) to join our field crew in Rochester, NY. This entry-level role offers hands-on training and growth into drilling and blasting operations within a majority employee-owned ESOP company.

You’ll operate heavy equipment, learn drill patterns, and support safety standards while traveling as needed. The position pays $20–$22 per hour plus a travel stipend, with full-time hours and benefits.

Qualifications

• Equipment operating experience is helpful.
• Valid Driver's License with own transportation.
• Experience as construction laborer.
• High level of common sense relative to equipment and machinery operation.
• Mechanical aptitude around equipment, motors, hydraulic, electrical systems.
• Must successfully pass ATF screenings.

Responsibilities

• Perform job-specific instruction provided by Superintendents, Blasting Supervisor or Drill Operators.
• Be safety-minded and able to work in varying weather environments.
• Out of town travel and overtime may be required.
• Perform daily maintenance for safe, efficient operation of assigned equipment.
• Adhere to Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Learn drill patterns and terminology; execute drill pattern as established by the Blaster Foreman.
• Inventory accessories; understand cost and maintenance needs.
• Communicate problems and terrain conditions to Blaster/Foreman.
• Understand Field Accounting system; complete drill reports, hole sheets, timecard.
• Physical agility.
• Coordinate supplies with Blaster.
• Carry all tools and supplies.
• Participate in meetings as needed.
• Complete Driller I training within designated period.
• Work unsupervised while maintaining urgency.
• Other duties as assigned.
