Job description

Reporting to the Director of Quality, this role manages a team of seven quality professionals and is primarily responsible for three general functions of UIC’s Quality Organization: 1.) supplier quality for inbound production material, 2.) product quality for all finished goods and spare parts produced in the Conklin, NY facility, 3.) field quality for post install support. The secondary responsibility is the governance of corporate compliance to our ISO 9001 objectives as well as maintenance of and compliance to our Quality Management System.

Team Activities Include:
  • Quality Acceptance Criteria Process for all FGI shipping to customers
  • Quality Management System maintenance and compliance
  • ISO 9001compliance and Quality System Auditing
  • Management of QA Function for UL/CE/Safety/Agency
  • Management of Asset Calibration
  • Inspection, Approval, and processing of all inbound production material
  • Failure Analysis and CAPA for rejected inbound material and supplier management for rework, replace, return
  • QA KPI tracking, measurement, reporting, and annual attainment for UIC Conklin site
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Leads a team of quality engineers directly accountable for product quality/reliability; establishes programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of products.
  • Assures compliance with all relevant Total Quality and Q&R ISO documents in all areas.
  • Trains and coaches quality team members in the application of quality tools.
  • Drives First Pass Yield (FPY) quality initiatives.
  • Leads a team to identify key areas for improvement through analysis of operations, practices and procedures.
  • Oversees the internal audit program to ensure business processes and practices meet internal and external quality system requirements.
  • Serves as the first level of escalation regarding product quality issues raised by team members
  • Reports results and escalates issues to Executive management, and all stakeholders as needed.
  • Assigns resources, as needed, to assist with customer acceptances, Manufacturing, Engineering and other product quality related activities.
  • Ensures integrity of all data and products before release for shipment.
  • Establishes relevant metrics to motivate improvement toward FPY and cycle time objectives.
  • Assures that all relevant product hardware and software test requirements are satisfied prior to release.
  • Leads efforts to assure appropriate inspection tools and requirements are utilized within manufacturing.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable State and Federal laws, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and appraising performance.
  • Interprets company policies to employees and enforces all safety regulations.
  • Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department; may include budget development and control.
  • Develops workforce planning and utilization programs to satisfy actual and projected requirements. Includes the scheduling of overtime and cost/effective use of temporary services.
  • Implements cross-training activities and plans for employees in the development of a highly flexible workforce.
  • Establishes and implements team/individual Critical Success Factors, including the measurement and documentation of the progress of each employee toward the established goals.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work-related problems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline with 5+ years of individual contribution experience, preferably in capital equipment.
  • 5+ years leadership experience in a management role.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:
  • Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with fellow colleagues and in giving presentations.
  • May remain stationary for extended periods but needs to be mobile enough to navigate through work areas.
  • Travel to other UIBU locations, customer sites and/or technical conferences may occasionally be required.
