Job Description

We are seeking a Quality Inspector in our Philadelphia, PA facility where we develop, produce, and process specialized coatings and materials, primarily for the defense market.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Providing technical assistance for understanding quality standards and solutions for manufacturing quality problems.
  2. Evaluating the quality capability of processes and maintaining quality throughout production.
  3. Ensuring the quality level of finished products, purchased materials, and components meet Coherent A&D’s requirements and customer expectations.
  4. Performing physical inspection, testing, and SPC to ensure quality control and assurance.
  5. Reviewing and improving the quality plan for inspection processes.
  6. Providing leadership, technical assistance, and training to lower-level inspectors and other departments.
  7. Planning and ordering packaging materials for commercial products.
  8. Planning and scheduling workload, including pulling pack slips and signing off on commercial products.
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma; ability to communicate effectively and write inspection instructions clearly; basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
  • At least 2 years of related experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or Optical Manufacturing.
Skills
  • Proficiency with laser markers, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, hand tools, and electronic gauges.
  • Experience in inspection planning, testing, record maintenance, and customer return evaluation.
  • Strong inspection, communication, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Ability to handle optical components carefully and clean them without damage.
Working Conditions
  • Office environment with standard equipment.
  • Work in a cubicle setting with potential distractions.
  • Moderate noise level.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing 2-4 hours/day, lifting 10-25 lbs., pushing/pulling 10-25 lbs., sitting up to 8 hours/day.
  • Visual acuity for close vision and focus adjustment.
Safety & Quality Responsibilities

Follow EHS procedures and maintain ISO standards applicable to quality and environmental management systems.
