Job description

We are seeking a Quality Inspector in our Philadelphia, PA facility where we develop, produce and process specialized coatings and materials, primarily for the defense market. This dynamic role conducts physical inspection of in-coming materials, some in-process & final inspection as well as quality document creation & review for varied components and materials. The Quality Inspector will interact regularly with technicians and engineers for non-conformance resolution.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance for understanding quality standards and solutions for manufacturing quality problems.
  • Evaluate the quality capability of processes and prove quality maintenance throughout Production.
  • Assure the quality level of the finished product, purchased materials and components are commensurate with Coherent A&D’s requirements and customer expectations
  • Perform the actual physical operations of inspection, test and SPC required to provide quality control and assurance
  • Appraising the quality plan for inspection and contributing to its continuing effectiveness
  • Providing leadership, technical assistance and training to lower-level Optical Inspectors and other departments
  • Plan / Order packaging material for commercial products
  • Plan and schedule workload, pull pack slips and sign off on commercial product

Education & Experience

  • High School education
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in one or more branches of Quality Control, Quality Assurance or Optical Manufacturing

Skills

  • Experience using various inspection tools, such as laser Marker, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, hand tools, height gauges, test plates, calculators, electronic gauges, light sources, interferometers, autocollimators, personal computers and test equipment for various products
  • Experience creating and review quality documents including receiving inspection and test, in-process inspection, final Inspection, final test, first article inspection, Quality records maintenance, Customer Return Evaluation, Material Review support
  • Ability to issue general communications and write inspection instructions that are grammatically correct
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics including geometry and trigonometry
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Skills in inspection, writing, interpersonal communications, and Statistical Methods necessary to perform the above functions, duties, and responsibilities

  • Job operates in a professional office environment
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • Work in a cubicle area – must be able to work in environment where employees are on the phone / speaking causing potential distractions throughout the day.
  • Noise level – Usually moderate

Physical Requirements

  • Standing: 2-4 Hours per day
  • Lifting: 10-25 lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: 10-25 lbs.
  • Sitting Up: 8 hours per day.
  • Visual acuity: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
