Job Title: Quality Inspector (2nd Shift)

Job Description

The Quality Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that automotive products consistently meet established quality and production standards. This position primarily works on 2nd shift and includes initial training on 1st shift for 1–2 weeks. The role involves detailed inspection, testing, and documentation of automotive parts using precision measuring tools, as well as close collaboration with the production team to maintain and improve product quality.

Responsibilities

• Establish quality standards for automotive products in a high-volume stamping environment.

• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to verify that operations and finished parts meet production and quality standards.

• Inspect and test finished products using hand tools and precision measuring equipment such as gauges, micrometers, and calipers.

• Document defects, nonconformances, and any necessary adjustments in a clear and accurate manner.

• Remove products that do not meet production standards and ensure they are properly identified and segregated.

• Recommend strategies and corrective actions to improve product quality and reduce defects.

• Accept or reject finished products based on inspection results and established criteria.

• Discuss inspection findings with the production team and collaborate to resolve quality issues.

• Perform quality checks throughout the production process to maintain consistent standards.

• Handle heavy lifting and pulling of parts and equipment up to approximately 30 pounds as needed during inspections.

• Work mandatory overtime as required, including some weekend hours, to support production demand and customer requirements.

Essential Skills

• 2–5 years of experience in quality inspection, preferably in an automotive or metal manufacturing environment.

• Experience in steel or metal manufacturing with stamping press operations.

• Strong quality control and quality inspection skills, including part inspection and quality checks.

• Proficiency in using gauges, micrometers, and calipers for precise measurements.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.

• Comfort with heavy lifting and pulling of approximately 30 pounds in a production setting.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in documenting defects and inspection results.

• Ability to communicate inspection findings clearly to production and quality teams.

• Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift and overtime, including some weekends.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in metal stamping operations.

• Experience in a welding environment, such as exposure to MIG welding processes.

• Familiarity with progressive presses and related metal forming equipment.

• Understanding of automotive industry quality standards and customer requirements.

• Ability to work across multiple buildings or production areas within a facility.

Work Environment

This role is based in a multi-building automotive stamping facility with six buildings on-site. The environment includes progressive stamping presses ranging from 100 to 600 tons, MIG welding machines, and orbit forming machines. It is a typical metal stamping facility that is loud and industrial, with conditions that may be dusty or not pristine but reasonably maintained for heavy manufacturing. The position is on 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) with training on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) for 1–2 weeks. Employees work approximately 45–50 hours per week, including mandatory overtime 1–2 weekends per month. Standard manufacturing attire is expected, with appropriate safety gear and protective equipment used as required in a stamping and welding environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Clemens, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
