Job summary

American Axle & Mfg., Inc. is seeking a Quality Engineering Technician to perform dimensional and mechanical inspections, develop PFMEA and control plans, and support engineering in addressing customer and part quality issues. The role includes leading MRB efforts and driving scrap reduction.

The position requires an Associate degree or equivalent PM experience, 2 years of engineering/manufacturing PM background, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and a safety-first mindset.

  • Associates Degree preferred or equivalent PM work experience.
  • 2 years engineering experience or manufacturing background in a PM environment.
  • Forward thinking, open-minded, methodical, and aggressive approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Good leadership qualities.
  • Able to work with little or no supervision in a fast-paced multi-task environment.
  • Willingness and desire to learn.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Works with Safety as a priority.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dimensional and mechanical inspection / layouts for new and existing product that are of a development or product validation nature.
  • Under the direction of an engineer maintain and develop PFMEA / Control Plan / Process Flow / ECRs.
  • Work with the Engineering performing various tasks related to customer concerns and production part quality issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts on the shop floor and monitor progress under the direction of an engineer. (Shainin / 8D /5Y)
  • Perform experiments under the direction of an engineer and aid in the statistical analysis of the results.
  • Under the direction of an engineer, assist in operator training on new and existing product.
  • Assist the engineer in development of proper control charts and limits
  • Initiates all PPAP / Prototype documentation.
  • Develops appearance reports under the guidance of the product engineer.
  • Assists with Metrology efforts for new and current products (gage design and selection).
  • Operates inspection equipment (Handheld gaging, CMMs, Optical comparators, Hardness tester, Density scales, Part specific gaging).
  • Lead MRB and champions efforts to reduce scrap and rework.
