Job description

Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Verifies dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments including, but not limited to, calipers, micrometers, hardness testers, profilometers, and electronic voltmeters.
  • Aligns, fits, and assembles component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and templates.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures, and executes Gage R&R (MSA).
  • Performs setups, programming, and operation of coordinate measuring machines or equivalent equipment.
  • Provides training and assistance to staff on coordinate measuring machines (or equivalent).
  • Provides direction for quality technicians regarding inspection best practices, technical development, and process improvements.
  • Works with product development to develop inspection plans for new products prior to launch.
  • Inspects and releases finished products (devices, sub-assemblies, and components) upon ensuring that acceptance criteria are met.
  • Selects products for testing at specified stages in the production process and tests products for various qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Prepares graphs, charts, or enters data into computer systems for analysis.
  • Performs calibration of test equipment and controls calibration processes.
  • Performs fixture and tooling validation.
  • Sets up quality modules for specified measurements according to inspection plans.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

  • Inspects parts and products returned after distribution.
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and recommends process improvements to management.
  • Supports ERP system transactions related to returned goods, incoming inspection, and shipping/receiving.
  • Assists in disposition of MRB and FAI parts.
  • Performs in-process audits to verify process control.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and at least 5 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ASQ certifications are preferred.

COMPETENCIES and/or SKILLS:

  • CMM knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Basic math skills and ability to interpret charts and graphs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with blueprint reading.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Analytical thinking skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to subordinate groups.
