Job summary

Whirlwind Steel is seeking a Quality Manager to lead quality programs across our fabrication facilities. You will recruit, mentor, and manage QC staff, perform internal audits, and oversee NDT by UT, welding inspections, and documentation to support manufacturing while sustaining production flow.

You will drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance with QSM and accreditation requirements, and coordinate third‑party audits and management reviews. Strong writing and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold AWS certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
• Must have ASNT Level II UT Technician credentials.
• Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles.
• Experience leading a quality department and driving QMS improvements.
• Strong interpersonal skills to motivate staff and direct teams.
• Excellent technical writing and documentation abilities.

Job Summary:

As the Quality Department head at each facility the Quality manager will be tasked with recruiting, hiring, and mentoring the Quality Control staff. The daily Quality Control team is tasked with visual weld inspection, Nondestructive Testing by UT Examination, and documentation of inspections in support of manufacturing while not impeding the production staff; a partner that adds value to the Whirlwind product. The management of this group is very important to the development and efficiency of the Quality Systems program.

The Quality Manager at each fabrication plant will direct, implement, and manage Quality processes throughout the organization. The Quality Manager assures that all aspects of the Quality Accreditation Programs are current and implemented across all functions of manufacturing and Quality Control. This position also contributes to the maintenance of the QSM while assuring that it meets or exceeds code requirements.

The Quality Manager is expected to lead and support Continuous Improvement initiatives in all manufacturing activities. There should be a continuous investment in training for the most efficient, and highest quality practices while maintaining a safe work environment.

The Quality Manager is tasked with performing internal quality audits as well as monitoring production processes for efficiency. The scheduling, resolution and documentation of periodic equipment and tool calibration is the responsibility of the Quality Manager. This position is uniquely qualified to host 3rd party quality audits and perform annual Management Reviews of audit results.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and Maintain Quality Action Plans
• Assist with nonconforming part disposition and corrective actions
• Maintain and update the Quality Systems Manual
• Verify conformance with the QSM
• Maintain a well-qualified staff of Quality Inspectors
• Develop procedures to allow adequate inspection with minimal delay to production
• Be subject matter expert for welding processes used

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) by AWS
• Able to manage ASNT Level II UT Technician
• Capable of attaining Canadian Welding Supervisor Certification
• Proven Knowledge in Statistical Process Control
• Excellent interpersonal skills used to motivate and direct employees to success
• Effective writing skills to organize and describe technical topics
