Job summary

PDS Inc. is seeking a Lab Engineer to join our quality team in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will test embedded devices, coordinate with hardware and software engineers, and help validate performance.

Responsibilities include defining test strategies, designing and executing software tests in UNIX, and collaborating with product managers to ensure reliable operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE or related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on software testing and test planning.
• Experience writing Python scripts and UNIX environment.
• Knowledge of test strategies and execution.

Responsibilities

• Define test strategies and plans for software projects.
• Design, execute, and validate software tests in UNIX environments.
• Collaborate with HW/SW engineers, PMs, and other QEs to ensure device performance.

Job description

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, can troubleshoot complex issues, is detail-oriented, and has a knack for thoroughly testing and validating electronic devices. Lab Engineers regularly work with Hardware and Software Engineers, Product Managers, and other Quality Engineers to ensure the proper operation and performance of enabled devices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience with software project testing: Defining test strategy, writing test plans, designing and executing software tests.
• Knowledge of UNIX environment is desired.
• 1+ years of experience in writing scripts in at least Python.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated expertise in black box and grey box testing methodologies, experience with standard QA and development tools, and the ability to operate within short release cycles.
• Hands‑on experience in testing Linux and/or Android-based devices.
• Solid understanding of QA tool development chains and environments.
• Experience writing scripts with test automation is a plus.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem solving skills.

Compensation: $40/hour
