Job summary

Optimum seeks an engineer to review design, coordinate with contractors, and track RF and fiber projects to support broadband service rollout. The role ensures quality signal and consistent mapping across the network.

Responsibilities include engineering QC, GIS data validation, and cross‑functional collaboration with Field Service, Construction, Billing, and Sales to deliver customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of twenty-four (24) months experience as a Field or Design Technician.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in good standing within the state of current residence.
• The ability to prepare and review, as necessary and appropriate, technical drawings applicable to any planned or existing telecommunications plant.
• Electronically and manually maintain system prints; map reading and creation from various sources.
• Capable of project and design tracking to monitor progress and schedule; understanding of fiber/RF design, powering, and aerial/underground construction methods.
• Knowledge of CATV nodes, line gear, passives; power supplies; cable specs; fiber cables; Wi‑Fi equipment.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the engineering, as-build, and quality control of cable plant and system components from the node throughout the distribution network.
• Perform complex engineering review and QC tasks using manual and various software methods.
• Quality Control/Quality Assurance of GIS data and mapping for reports, mapping, relationships, specs, and as-build criteria.
• Performs tasks of high complexity related to surveys (institutional, residential, commercial), from building entry to demarcation points for network feeds.
• Compile complex footage documentation, cost analysis for estimation, construction methods for broadband network.
• Interact with Field Service, Construction, Billing/Collections, and Sales to ensure design accuracy for scheduled construction and installation.
• Analyze Cost/Mile, equipment, and maintenance needs, and construction demands for Coax and fiber plant.
• Compute and analyze fiber architectures to meet platform specs for CATV, Voice, Video, and Wi‑Fi for residential/commercial use.
• Design and engineer strategic transport and business fiber for network development; coordinate with Fiber group for project release.
• Interact with multiple departments on system setup, design, walkout, and quality control; understand field routing for CATV, data, and telephony.
• Attend vendor/contractor meetings; work with hardware/software vendors to facilitate system completion and mapping for design/engineering.
• Assist with public relations with customers and public officials.
