QUALITY ASSURANCE LAB TECHNICIAN

Location: Mt. Olive

Department: QA

Reports to: QA Lab Supervisor

Shift: Evening

Hourly/Salaried: Hourly

FSLA status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Perform standardized qualitative and quantitative assays to determine physical, chemical, and microbiological properties of food products and other samples. Conduct tests to ensure compliance with standards regarding color, texture, nutrients, and microbiological content. Prepare laboratory activities and analyses to provide accurate technical information to relevant personnel.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and store laboratory samples.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for microbiological/chemical testing.
  • Maintain stock of lab materials.
  • Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Verify/calibrate lab equipment regularly, including annual third-party certification.
  • Monitor product quality to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Perform sensory evaluation of foods to meet flavor specifications.
  • Conduct microbiological analyses of food ingredients, raw and finished food samples, and environmental samples using established methods.
  • Perform chemical and physical analyses of food samples using standard chemistry methods.
  • Enter test data into databases to ensure products meet customer standards.
  • Record and compile test results; prepare reports, graphs, and charts.
  • Train QA technicians or other personnel in relevant procedures.
  • Perform audits or QA functions on the production floor as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  • Use scientific methods to solve problems.
  • Conduct tests and inspections to evaluate quality and performance.

Education & Experience

  • Two-year college or associate degree in food microbiology or a similar field preferred, or a combination of education and work experience.
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing preferred.
