Job summary

The University of Michigan’s Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) program seeks a dynamic Program Officer Associate to lead daily operations, student advising, and strategic initiatives. As the primary full-time staff lead, you will work with the QMSS Leadership Team and report to the Chief Administrator.

You will oversee advising for 150+ undergrad minors, manage budgets and hiring, supervise student staff, and build partnerships.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a social science discipline, data analytics, quantitative methodology, higher education, or closely related field.
• 3+ years of progressive administrative experience in academic/non-profit/educational setting, including program management or student advising.
• Demonstrated student-centric focus in advising, mentorship, or student service delivery.
• Data management, basic statistical concepts, and data tools proficiency.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
• Exceptional project management abilities with ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations for the QMSS undergraduate unit and support the student cohort.
• Manage program budgets, hiring processes for faculty/GSIs, and coordinate TA allocations.
• Lead student staff and coordinate workshops on technical skills (Excel, R/Python, data visualization).
• Advise 150+ QMSS minors on course selection, progress, transfer credits, and graduation releases.
• Develop external relations, partnerships, and alumni engagement; support development campaigns.
