Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. seeks a System Engineer with an active DOE Q clearance to support the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. The role is full-time and based in an active machining environment.

The candidate will install, startup, and operate machining centers, provide engineering support, and ensure adherence to nuclear safety and configuration controls. U.S. citizenship and a DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship required due to federal work.
• Active DOE 'Q' clearance or DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Demonstrated machining or machine tool experience.
• Experience supporting machining centers, manufacturing equipment, or production operations.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Support installation, startup, and operation of machining centers and equipment.
• Provide engineering support for configuration management activities and documentation.
• Perform equipment troubleshooting, technical evaluations, and improvements to resolve issues.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance for machining systems and equipment.
• Apply mechanical and electrical expertise to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
• Coordinate technical solutions with engineering, production, maintenance, and operations.
• Evaluate equipment performance and recommend modifications to improve reliability and production.
• Ensure work complies with Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance.
• Adhere to nuclear facility requirements, safety standards, and configuration controls.
• Provide hands-on engineering support in an active machining environment.
