Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Facility Safety Engineer to support the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This full-time role focuses on safety basis development and regulatory compliance for high-hazard nuclear facilities.

You will lead hazard analyses, perform accident analyses, review technical safety requirements, and mentor junior engineers. Candidates should have an engineering degree and extensive DOE safety experience; citizenship and ability to obtain

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 15+ years of direct safety engineering experience.
• 10+ years of DOE experience in nuclear safety analysis and safety basis.
• Strong knowledge of 10 CFR 830, Subpart B.
• Experience developing, reviewing DSAs, SARs, and TSRs.
• Lead capability in safety basis development and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide nuclear facility safety and safety basis technical support for the DOE facilities at Y-12.
• Ensure compliance with 10 CFR 830, Subpart B, and DOE safety standards.
• Lead hazard identification, hazard screening, and hazard evaluation activities.
• Perform and review accident analyses and consequence evaluations for facility events.
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend engineered and administrative controls for safety.
• Develop, maintain, and review Safety Analysis Reports (SARs), DSAs, and TSRs.
• Evaluate facility modifications for impacts to the safety basis.
• Provide technical guidance regarding DOE safety requirements and practices.
• Address DNFSB-identified issues and provide leadership for safety activities.
• Interface with engineering, operations, nuclear safety, and management teams.
• Review technical documentation to verify consistency with safety controls.
