Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Performance Engineer II to oversee day-to-day operations on active projects. The role supports remote or hybrid work with in-office presence in San Diego, CA or Bend, OR. You will collaborate across teams to collect data, generate reports, and optimize solar and storage fleet performance.

Ideal candidates have extensive PV performance engineering experience, modeling skills (PVSyst/PlantPredict/SAM), and strong communications. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years’ experience in PV Performance Engineering, Capacity Testing (ASTM E2848 & IEC standards) and PV data analytics.
• Experience in modeling using software like PVSyst, PlantPredict, SAM, and so on
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office tools
• Experience with programming languages like Python, VBA, MATLAB, Java, and others preferred
• Ability to travel up to 20% of time
• Broad understanding of the Renewable Energy industry with emphasis on Service and Construction preferred
• Strong communication skills to clearly articulate vision into an executable plan and clearly communicate details and thoughts to internal/external clients
• Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for problem solving
• Able to mentor and oversee Performance Engineers & Analysts

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operational activities of active projects.
• Collaborate with internal teams to collect data, complete reports, Acceptance tests, and other analytics.
• On-board active projects into SOLV Energy’s internal Performance Team platforms.
• Track issues and optimize fleet performance with cross-functional teams.
• Troubleshoot performance data and correlate with workorder data for reporting.
• Lead and coordinate Performance Engineers & Analysts in daily operations.
• Maintain understanding of site design, equipment, and current issues.
• Analyze energy losses from outages and communicate impacts to teams.
• Update reports for clients including Commissioning Plans, Test Reports, and Forecasts.
• Support field work prioritization based on criticality and failures.
• Coordinate with OEMs, field technicians, SCADA engineers, and others to resolve issues.
• Assist with data analytics and software tools development.
• Review performance reports to identify operational issues.
• Manage plant performance optimization initiatives with teams and clients.
• Monitor contractual guarantees and conduct risk reviews.
• Maintain documentation for internal reference and training.
• Foster strong working relationships within the Performance team.
• Support client reviews and ad-hoc requests; escalate issues as needed.
• Review turnover documentation to identify root causes of issues.
• Run PV system energy models using PVsyst or other tools as needed.
• Verify drawings including site plans, system layout, and installation details.
• Develop troubleshooting/reporting templates and improve workflows.
• Execute tasks per the Performance Engineering Workflow Process with status notes.
• Run simulations in PVsyst: terrain impacts, horizon losses, shading, snow/soiling/spectral losses.
• Grow into subject matter expert for PV power plants.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
