Job summary

The AES Corporation is seeking an Engineer, Development – WEST to design and engineer utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects in early-stage development for the West region. You will model production, size facilities, and support RFPs, permits, and interconnections, coordinating with internal teams.

Ideal candidates have PV/BESS design experience, strong communication, and the ability to work in a remote or distributed team. Up to 10% travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Undergrad degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical preferred) or equivalent tech field.
• 3+ years in energy system design or consulting; advanced degrees may count.
• Proficiency with PVsyst, Solar Farmer, SAM, and AutoCAD.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally.
• Self-starter; able to work remotely or in distributed teams.
• Ability to manage third-party consultants and internal stakeholders; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop preliminary plant designs, site layouts, and single-line diagrams with internal CAD and interconnection teams.
• Select primary project equipment (inverters, PV modules, batteries, trackers) per site conditions and schedule.
• Model energy production and battery dispatch.
• Conduct site evaluations (remote and in-person) for feasibility and constructability.
• Perform technical due diligence on production estimates, site plans and data.
• Support pricing and value engineering with internal teams.
