Job summary

Southland Industries in Ohio seeks a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to support the purchasing team with material orders, data entry, and expediting. The role involves coordinating with suppliers, tracking deliveries, and maintaining supplier pricing in the ERP system.

You will also assist with processing material receivers, bulk deliveries, returns, and credits, and support RFQ/RFP activities to obtain pricing and delivery schedules.

Qualifications

• High school degree or G.E.D.
• Minimum 1 year experience in purchasing or customer service support
• Basic knowledge of purchasing practices and systems preferred
• Strong time management and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, detail oriented
• Able to operate PC with spreadsheet, word processing, database software, and ERP
• COINS experience preferred
• Ability to work in a continuous improvement environment
• Strong communication with suppliers, customers, project management, field staff, and accounting

Responsibilities

• Assist Purchasing team with placing orders.
• Follow up with suppliers on delivery dates and back orders; inform teams of issues.
• Maintain current and accurate files of suppliers pricing within ERP and purchasing spreadsheets.
• Assist with processing material receivers and coordinate bulk deliveries of rough products.
• Assist with processing material returns and credits.
• Support RFQ, RFP processes to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
