Job summary

Southland Industries in Columbus, OH is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to support the purchasing team with orders, take-offs, will-call orders, data entry, and expediting under the Purchasing Manager.

You will coordinate with suppliers on delivery dates, maintain supplier pricing in ERP, process receivers, returns, and assist with RFQ/RFP activities to gather pricing and delivery schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year purchasing or customer service support experience.
• Knowledge of purchasing practices and ERP systems preferred.
• Strong time management with ability to handle multiple projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency with PC, spreadsheets, word processing, and databases; ERP software experience (COINS preferred).
• Experience in a continuous improvement environment.
• Ability to work with suppliers, customers, project management, field staff, and accounting in a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assists Purchasing team with placing orders.
• Partners with suppliers to follow up on delivery dates and back orders; tracks status and informs teams of issues.
• Maintains supplier pricing in ERP and purchasing spreadsheets.
• Assists with processing material receivers and coordinating bulk deliveries.
• Assists with processing material returns and credits.
• Supports RFQ/RFP processes to obtain product information such as pricing and delivery schedules.
