Job summary

Jobot is seeking a dynamic Purchasing Manager to join our engineering team at a leading steel fabrication company in California. You will manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and coordinate purchase schedules to align with production timelines.

The role requires five+ years in purchasing within engineering, strong communication, and cost-reduction focus. You will track orders, monitor supplier performance, and implement strategic purchasing initiatives to support project delivery

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a purchasing role within the engineering industry.
• Proven experience in vendor management, negotiation, and procurement.
• Strong knowledge of production planning and cost reduction strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to track pricing trends and forecast future needs.
• Proficient in using purchasing and inventory management software.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
• Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the company's vendor relationships, ensuring that all suppliers meet our stringent quality and delivery standards.
• Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with suppliers to secure advantageous terms.
• Track and forecast pricing trends and their impact on future activities.
• Coordinate purchase schedules to align with production schedules, ensuring that materials are available when needed.
• Communicate effectively with project managers and foremen to understand their needs and ensure they are met.
• Track and manage purchase orders, ensuring that all orders are delivered on time and within budget.
• Monitor supplier performance, providing feedback and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of cost reduction initiatives.
• Oversee the procurement process, ensuring that all purchases comply with company policies and procedures.
• Prepare and manage RFQs, evaluating proposals and selecting suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed.
