Job summary

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Manager to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA. The role focuses on strategic leadership of the purchasing function, mentoring the team, and ensuring on-time delivery of materials for production.

You will manage suppliers, collaborate with demand planning, and drive inventory optimization while supporting cross-functional activities with engineering, operations, and customer service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10 years’ minimum manufacturing experience in an assemble-to-order environment may be considered in lieu of, or in conjunction with, educational requirements.
  • 7 years’ minimum supervisor/management experience required.
  • 3 years’ MRP or ERP software experience required.
  • Global sourcing experience in electronic components preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, mentor, and support the Purchasing team.
  • Carry out a comprehensive annual review of the Purchasing Department and its methodology and identify and implement improvements.
  • Manage and control all the company’s external suppliers, with particular emphasis on the purchase of raw materials for production.
  • Collaborate closely with demand planning to ensure the purchasing team receives optimal demand signals to suppliers.
  • Liaison with Strategic Sourcing in management activities with key suppliers and supplier performance on cost, quality, delivery, and service.
  • Lead the purchasing team to drive optimal inventory and improve inventory turns while delivering Starline OTD.
  • Collaborate with operations, demand planning, engineering, and customer service on standard work to help the purchasing team with visibility into parts requirements.
  • Serve as the first line of escalation for supplier issues.
  • Support daily or weekly supplier meetings; engage in supplier report cards.
  • Participate in monthly safety walks.
  • Collaborate across Starline operations to implement and share best practices in the purchasing process.
  • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of purchased material and services.
  • Analyze data and make recommendations to achieve “Best Practice” status.
  • Evaluate inventory-related reports, providing analysis and recommendations to improve control.
  • Monitor Syteline data, DDMRP data, inventory reports, and other data resources to determine proper on-hand quantities.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in trade shows and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.

The Purchasing Manager’s responsibilities include ensuring training and development of the team are kept at the forefront of daily activities and supporting all members of the purchasing and operations team. The role will focus on supporting the purchasing function at a strategic level to help achieve objectives required to aid production. The Purchasing Manager will perform strategic and tactical tasks associated with ordering and expediting finished goods, components, packaging materials, raw materials, and MRO commodities.

Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing:

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas where certain locations require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with others.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to fly for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
