Summary
This position is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine the most desirable suppliers. Places orders and stays involved in inventory distribution. Monitors the quality of goods or services. Researches new trends or advances in product lines to make appropriate buying decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Price, negotiate, and purchase materials, services, supplies, and equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Act as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Coordinator at the Brooklyn Park facility, working with the Purchasing Agent to ensure materials purchased meet FSC certification requirements.
- Track and manage supplier deliveries, investigate and resolve discrepancies related to pricing, terms, and conditions.
- Develop and recommend policies, procedures, or purchasing systems for the organization.
- Maintain records of purchased materials or services, including delivery dates, vendors, costs, and quality.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and conduct monthly inventory counts.
- Train personnel in the use of manual and electronic requisitions.
- Assist in identifying and disposing of obsolete or excess supplies.
- Work closely with other departments to secure complete and accurate purchase orders.
- Develop and author procedures required by ISO standards for requisitions and purchase order processing.
- Research and develop new sources of approved suppliers or substitute materials.
- Complete RFQs/RFPs, analyze prices, and manage purchase orders.
- Participate in the supplier performance review committee and update the approved supplier list as needed.
- Provide backup support to other team members as required.
- Understand your role in the company's Quality Management System regarding ISO standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of paper products is preferred.
- Exceptional math and analytical skills for evaluating quotes and contracts.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Highly developed negotiating skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other PC applications.
- Strong work planning and scheduling skills.
Physical Requirements
- Constant use of computers and sitting.
- Occasional lifting over 50 lbs, pulling, pushing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, and operating mechanical equipment and vehicles.
