Job summary

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital invites experienced Pulmonary Function Technologists to join the Adult and Pediatric PFT Labs. The role performs spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion, ABG analysis, and supports quality control, with a Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

schedule and opportunity to float between labs. Requires Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, NY license, 1 year spirometry experience, BLS, strong patient interaction, and ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist by NYS Education Department.
• One year experience in spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, ABG testing.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Computer skills and keyboard familiarity.
• Ability to work well with patients, physicians and other clinicians.
• Ability to work independently at a high level of intensity.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, airway resistance, thoracic gas volume, respiratory muscle strength, and arterial puncture procedures.
• Conduct routine exercise studies such as oxygen titration and six-minute walk testing.
• Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot pulmonary function laboratory equipment according to established procedures.
• Evaluate test validity, collect clinical information, and ensure accurate patient assessments.
• Perform arterial blood gas collection and analysis and participate in quality control and proficiency testing activities.
• Educate and prepare patients for testing procedures to ensure a positive patient experience.
• Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to support diagnostic interpretation and effective patient care planning.
• Assist with scheduling, supply management, and coordination of patient services as needed.
