Job summary

IEEE is seeking a Publishing Ethics Specialist to manage and resolve publishing ethics issues, including plagiarism and manipulation of peer review. The role involves case management, initial case reviews, and regular reporting of the ethics caseload while staying current on publication ethics standards.

The incumbent will work with IEEE Publications, external partners, and industry groups to advance ethics practices and ensure compliance with PSPB policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Master's or advanced degree in physical science or engineering preferred.
  • 2–4 years publishing experience preferred.
  • 2–4 years experience with research and the scholarly publishing process in STEM fields preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem‑solving skills required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as IEEE Publications' subject matter expert on publishing ethics issues.
  • Act as case manager in handling and resolution of ethics issues.
  • Provide initial review of incoming cases to determine if further investigation is warranted.
  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with journal and conference peer review processes and publication ethics concepts.
  • Collaborate with external publishing partners and industry groups (e.g., COPE) to stay current on ethics issues.
