Job summary

IEEE is seeking a Publishing Ethics Specialist to resolve issues such as plagiarism and manipulation of peer review, handling cases through the Ethics Point System, and serving as a subject matter expert on publishing ethics in the IEEE environment.

The role requires handling confidential information, investigating misconduct, and collaborating with Editors-in-Chief and external partners to uphold high ethical standards across IEEE publications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
• Master's or other advanced degree in physical science or engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an IEEE Publications' subject matter expert on publishing ethics issues.
• Respond to serious allegations of publishing misconduct and act as case manager.
• Provide initial review of incoming cases to determine if investigations are merited.
• Keep track of misconduct caseload and report status.
• Explore and support methods of misconduct detection with technology and vendors.
• Maintain familiarity with journal/conference peer review processes and IP law.
• Keep reports on misconduct related to IEEE Publications, especially from conferences and periodicals.
• Engage with external partners (e.g., COPE) to stay current on ethics issues.
