Job summary

The City of Elma is seeking a Public Works Utility Worker to operate and maintain city properties, utilities and assets. The role requires physical labor, basic mechanical skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

You will assist in water, wastewater, street, parks, and cemetery maintenance, read meters for billing, and participate in on-call duties and weekend schedules as needed. Applicants should have a HS diploma or GED and a valid WA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work well with others and in varying weather conditions.
• Physically capable of manual labor including lifting up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs public utility fixtures such as sewers, storm drains, and the city water supply system.
• Ensures streets, parks, cemeteries and utilities are kept in safe, sanitary condition for public use.
• Reads meters to generate monthly billing statements.
• Maintains city property and grounds to be attractive and safe.
• Operates and drives city vehicles and heavy equipment.
