Job summary

The City of Elmhurst is seeking a Utility Maintenance Worker to operate and maintain water, sanitary, and storm systems. Duties include manual tasks, leak detection assistance, sewer maintenance, and water service repairs, with the ability to drive large trucks and operate specialized equipment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and 1+ year of relevant experience; CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within 1 year is required in some roles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year experience in construction, maintenance and repair of water, sanitary and storm sewer systems.
• CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within 1 year of hire.
• Class D certification within 1 year of hire.
• Collections certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual tasks under supervision.
• Assist with leak detection, sewer monitoring, and sampling.
• Maintains water, sewer, and storm lines, inlets, and manholes.
• Repairs water services, mains, valves, hydrants, and taps.
• Operates televising/flushing equipment.
• Drive medium to heavy-duty trucks for hauling materials/equipment.
• Clean and repair work sites.
• Snow removal and salting of roadways.
• Complete routine reports on a computer system using a tablet.
• Maintain safe work areas and equipment; report injuries and follow safety rules.
• Promote community relations; assist with fats, oils and grease program.
• Available for emergency callouts, holidays, and overtime.
