City of Bartow is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform skilled manual labor on construction, maintenance and repair projects, including streets, water distribution, sewer lines, and stormwater systems. The role requires operating heavy equipment and following safety protocols.

The position emphasizes reliability, ability to read and write, and flexibility for varied shifts including evenings and weekends. Candidates should have a high school diploma and 2–4 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years of experience in heavy manual work and equipment operation.
• Experience supervising crews preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of skilled manual tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, water distribution, sewer lines, and stormwater systems.
• Repairs, changes, and installs new water meters and maintains related records.
• Repairs and test backflow prevention devices. Replaces devices as needed. Prepares necessary work orders and record keeping logs on backflow devices as needed.
• Operates track hoe, backhoe, dozer, forklift, tractors, wheel loader, grader, street sweeper, VAC truck, and other heavy equipment in the installation, maintenance, and repair on projects on streets, water lines, sewer lines, parks, driveways, and related facilities.
• Performs preventative maintenance on fire hydrants and valves.
• Assist with the setting up and breaking down for special events.
• Performs utility locates as needed.
• Performs all tasks and duties of Maintenance Specialist I and II when required.
• Supervises crews as assigned.
