Under general direction, the Public Works Services Manager plans, organizes, and implements public works maintenance and operations functions, including street maintenance (sweeping, plowing, ice removal, maintenance and repair), hydrants, water mains, sanitary sewer collection system, storm sewer collection system, and pump stations to ensure effective and efficient operations and quality services to the community. The incumbent supervises the activities of public works supervisors responsible for carrying out and maintaining city operations functions.
The Public Works Services Manager supervises approximately 62 FTE staff and manages a unit budget of approximately $9.5 million.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering/management or a related field, five or more years of experience in public works operations and maintenance, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements is required.
Most work is performed in an office environment with some field activities, including exposure to adverse weather, fumes, chemicals, and traffic. The role involves standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. It is classified as light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
