Job summary

Butte County is seeking Public Works Maintenance Workers (I-III) to perform road maintenance, repair, and minor construction tasks. The position encompasses traffic control, snow removal, and equipment operation across county roads and bridges.

Levels I-III provide escalating responsibilities, with supervision levels and progression tied to performance and qualifications. Positions are non-exempt and may be offered as Regular or Extra Help depending on funding and need.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade; and
• Must possess a valid US driver’s license upon date of application. Must obtain California driver’s license following hire date per California DMV regulations.

Responsibilities

• Breaks and removes surfaces of roads and related structures; digs, hauls, and loads and unloads spoils, sand, asphalt mixes and other materials.
• Installs, repairs, and replaces guardrails, culverts, storm drains, ditches, and other related structures; constructs and repairs curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
• Performs snow removal and storm patrol work; removes driftwood and other debris from under bridges or culverts to maintain proper water flow.
• Operates a variety of heavy and light construction equipment such as snow and ice removal equipment, Vac Con, excavator/masticator, dump trucks, water trucks, spray trucks, backhoes, rollers, graders, zippers, loaders, patch pots, and sweepers.
