Job summary

NC Department of Transportation is seeking a General Utility Worker in the Carpentry Shop to support construction and woodworking projects, assist with various maintenance tasks, and perform janitorial services. The role requires experience with outdoor power equipment and basic hand tools, with duties including landscaping, weed control, and material handling.

Applicants must be able to operate a motor vehicle legally and work in conditions with heat, cold, and dust.

Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial services.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to move heavy objects and perform manual tasks for extended periods.
• Experience using small hand tools (shovels, rakes, brooms, etc.).
• Experience operating power equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Support Carpentry Shop with construction and woodworking projects.
• Assist with maintenance including mowing, mulching, weed control, and general landscaping.
• Perform janitorial services and maintain tools and work areas.
• Operate/maintain outdoor power equipment as required.
• Ensure safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
