Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a GIS Technician to develop, analyze, and maintain the City’s GIS data and systems. The role involves digitizing assets, validating data from plans and field notes, and integrating data into Cityworks for asset management.

You will support dashboard development, data quality initiatives, and responses to data requests, while advancing GIS capabilities citywide.

Qualifications

Two years of formal training beyond high school in geography or GIS.
One year of related GIS work experience, or three years of GIS experience.
Valid Montana driver’s license or obtain within 30 days of hire.
Ability to pass a Federal and State criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

Digitizes and enters public works asset data from as-builts and CAD or GPS sources.
Maintains datasets to improve data accuracy and integrity.
Attaches CCTV inspection files to utility layers in Cityworks and records condition scores.
Populates missing pipe data using video and field information.
Tracks construction deliverables and updates GIS with new data.
Collaborates to develop ArcGIS Dashboards, Field Maps, Insights, and Solutions.
Creates asset layers and integrates datasets with Cityworks.
Generates maps and reports from spatial data.
Responds to third-party GIS data requests.
Automates GIS data input/output via programming.
Field-collects GPS data for City GIS.
