Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a Traffic Technician to perform a range of transportation planning tasks, including counts, studies, parking analyses, and data-driven recommendations. You will collaborate with staff, other agencies, and the public to support multimodal transportation goals.

Responsibilities include field and office work, processing data for reports, maintaining transportation databases and dashboards, and providing technical support to engineering and planning staff.

Qualifications

• Specialized training beyond high school that can be obtained in one year or less and a total of one or more years of combined education and experience, or equivalent.
• A valid Montana driver's license or one must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field traffic studies including manual counts, turning movement counts, speed studies, pedestrian gap studies, and other analyses.
• Deploy and retrieve automated counters for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian counts.
• Conduct signal timing and sight distance analyses; prepare calculations.
• Assist in data collection and analysis for parking studies and neighborhood traffic control.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for staff and the public.
