Job summary

The City of Ann Arbor offers a trainee program to develop skills for street maintenance, utility work and waste collection. You will receive on-the-job training and classroom instruction, with a pathway to a regular role after successful completion.

Starting at an hourly rate of $19.15, the trainee will work a Monday–Friday schedule and gain experience operating equipment, performing repairs, and learning municipal procedures. CDL training is included and will be funded by the City.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in navigation, mechanical aptitude, and safe work practices within 2 months of hire.
• Candidate must obtain CDL-A with N endorsement within 9 months of hire (training paid by City).
• Experience with utility or street maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Learn, develop and apply technical skills for street maintenance, utility work and waste collection.
• Operate light to heavy equipment as trained.
• Use Cityworks to track work activities and document daily progress.
• Attend safety courses and obtain CDL-A within the trainee period.
• Support water mains, hydrants, sewer, and stormwater systems maintenance.
