Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is offering a Public Works Sanitary Utilities Field Trainee position. This paid trainee program develops skills in street maintenance, utility work, and solid waste collection including learning to operate equipment and to follow safety procedures.

Starting at $19.15 per hour, the role runs Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm, on site in Ann Arbor. Trainees progress to a regular role after completing classroom and field training and CDL-A readiness.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain CDL-A with N endorsement within 9 months of hire.
• Driver’s license required to drive city vehicles and operate equipment.
• Ability to learn and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Learn street maintenance, utility work and solid waste collection.
• Operate light to heavy equipment under supervision.
• Learn to install, repair, and maintain water mains, hydrants and sewer systems.
• Use CityWorks to track work orders and report activity.
• Attend safety trainings and develop technical skills.
