Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is hiring a Public Works Sanitary Utilities Field Trainee to learn and perform street maintenance, utility work and waste collection. The role provides on-the-job training, including CDL-A with N endorsement within 9 months, and a pathway to full-time employment.

The trainee will operate equipment, handle basic repairs, and complete safety courses while progressing toward a regular Public Works Technician role.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required at hire.
• CDL-A with N endorsement within 9 months; training paid by employer.
• Proficiency in map reading, communications, and basic tech skills expected after 2 months.

Responsibilities

• Learn street maintenance, utility work and solid waste collection.
• Operate light to heavy equipment and perform repairs and pothole filling.
• Train to install/maintain water mains, sanitary sewer and stormwater systems.
