The City of Oak Park is hiring a Public Service Worker I for the Department of Public Works. The role covers operating heavy equipment such as loaders, trucks, and backhoes, plus manual tasks across water, sewer, parks, forestry, and street maintenance.

Employees may be assigned to any division, and due to driving duties, are subject to the Federal Drug and Alcohol testing act. Residency must be within 25 minutes of Oak Park.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• HS diploma or GED required.
• CDL permit and written test within 90 days of hire.
• CDL Part B with Air Brakes & Tanker Endorsement within 180 days.
• Live within 25 minutes of City of Oak Park.
• Preferred: Public Works experience.
• May need pesticide applicator license in some cases.

Responsibilities

• Operate power tools and large equipment (dump trucks, backhoes, loaders).
• Perform ice and snow control and landscaping tasks.
• Repair and maintain pump stations, water meters, hydrants and sewers.
• Maintain accurate records and time sheets.
• Be prepared to work in any Public Works division and overtime as needed.
