Job summary

The City of Yuma is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department. You will operate trucks and construction equipment in road maintenance, repairs, and traffic control, supporting street cleaning, signage, and safety compliance.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of equipment operation in public works or road construction; Arizona Class B CDL is required, with Class A within 12 months; safety-focused team player.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; 1 year of experience operating equipment in road construction or public works.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and traffic control guidelines (MUTCD/ADOT familiarity helpful).
• Ability to operate a variety of trucks and construction equipment in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks, water trucks, compaction rollers, loaders, backhoes and other Public Works equipment.
• Assist in maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, roadways, and signage for the Public Works Department.
• Assist in setup of traffic control zones and traffic flagging as needed; help with signage repairs.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment before and after work shifts to ensure safe operation.
• Monitor work sites to verify safety rules are followed and report hazards or equipment issues to supervisor.
• Support city goals and maintain professional conduct with citizens and staff.
