Job summary

City of Yuma is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department. This role operates a range of construction and maintenance equipment to support streets, roadways, and signage projects, under supervision.

The position requires at least a high school diploma or GED and one year of relevant equipment operation experience. Arizona CDL Class B is required, with Class A within 12 months. AHAZWOPER/NIMS/MUTCD certifications are expected within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; plus one year of experience operating equipment in road construction or public works.
• Valid Arizona State Class B CDL required; Class A CDL within twelve months of hire.
• OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER), NIMS Emergency Response, and MUTCD certifications expected within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate basic construction, maintenance, and transportation equipment in PWD maintenance activities.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of streets, roadways, and signage; haul materials to job sites.
• Set up traffic control zones and assist with traffic flagging to protect workers.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment before and after shifts; report safety hazards.
• Promote safety and compliance with city policies and procedures.
