Under general supervision, performs the full range of duties assigned to classes in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. Operates complex heavy motorized street sweeping equipment and heavy construction equipment used in street, water, flood control channels, and sewer maintenance in the Public Works department. Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of all applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties. Occasionally assists in training lower-level Public Works maintenance staff. Performs other related duties as required.
The Public Works Equipment Operator is an advanced journey-level class responsible for a variety of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the lower classification of Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the operation of heavy equipment and multiple power tools in construction operations.
