Job summary

The City of Abilene is seeking an entry-level Engineer-In-Training to support the design and construction of public works and utilities under the supervision of a Professional Engineer I/II. The role emphasizes applying engineering knowledge to real-world problems while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

You will prepare estimates and plans, review designs submitted by others, inspect workmanship, and assist in field investigations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Valid Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Responsibilities

Develop engineering project plans, specifications, and estimates.
Assign routine investigation, design, and drafting tasks to technical assistants.
Review completed engineering work for inaccuracies and discrepancies.
Assist and provide inputs for solutions to engineering challenges.
Review private development plans and submissions for conformance with City rules and standards.
Research publications and industry sources for relevant data.
Develop revised design and construction standards for public works and utilities.
