Job summary

The City of Baltimore is seeking an Engineer I to prepare and review engineering plans, designs, specifications and cost estimates. Work includes supervising drafting and sub-professional staff under moderate supervision.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s of Science in engineering (Master’s may substitute) and relevant certifications. Applicants must meet education and licensure requirements and may undergo a criminal background check and six-month probation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Master’s degree in engineering may be substituted for the Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering.
• Some positions require Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland.
• Some positions require NICET Engineering Technologist certification.
• Some positions require PE licensure in Maryland or out-of-state.
• Some positions require Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver’s license or equivalent.
• Criminal background information may be required for appointment to positions of trust.
• Six-month probation period for selected applicants.
• Education credentials from US institutions should be evaluated for US equivalency.

Responsibilities

• An Engineer I prepares and reviews engineering plans, designs, specifications and cost estimates.
• Work may involve overseeing drafting, sub-professional engineering and other personnel.
• Incumbents receive moderate supervision and work a conventional workweek.
• Work is performed in an office setting under normal conditions.
