Job summary

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY is seeking a Public Works Director in Florida. This full-time role oversees Engineering, Road and Bridge, Stormwater, and Heavy Equipment Maintenance, directing daily operations and long-range planning to sustain County infrastructure.

The position requires strategic budgeting, interagency coordination, and leadership to drive policy development and program implementation in a complex public works setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, construction management, or engineering (must submit with application).
• Minimum of five years supervisory experience in engineering, road/bridge maintenance, surveying, stormwater, or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Comparable amount of training, education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Directs the daily management of the Public Works Department operations.
• Develops criteria for inspection, evaluation and implementation of programs and procedures; ensures adherence to guidelines and timetables.
• Provide long-range planning and policy development to ensure proper maintenance and repair of related facilities.
• Coordinate with other County Departments, Federal, State and City Agencies.
• Prepare and manages annual operating and CIP budgets for the Public Works Department.
• Oversees all design/engineering and construction plans for conformance with regulations and standards.
• Develop SOPs and policies; cultivate customer service within the department.
• Promote staff development and succession planning.
