Job summary

Malibu, City of (CA) seeks an experienced Public Works Director to lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee budgets, contracts, and customer-facing services, and drive regulatory compliance with a focus on service excellence for residents and developers.

You will coordinate with the City Council, manage capital projects, and guide policy implementations while ensuring safety and transparency in all operations.

Qualifications

• Requires a four-year college degree in public/business admin, civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible public works operations/administration experience, including supervision.
• Valid California driver license and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Plans, manages, and oversees daily functions of Public Works administrative and operational programs.
• Develops, administers, and monitors budgets; contracts and procurement.
• Prepares staff reports and agenda materials; coordinates with City Clerk and other departments.
• Leads department personnel; provides coaching, performance management, and training.
• Coordinates inter-department collaboration and external stakeholders; oversees emergency planning and response.
