Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General's Utility Consumer Advocate Unit seeks an experienced attorney to protect Colorado utility consumers. You will advocate on electric, gas, and telecom matters before the PUC, working with a multi-disciplinary team to develop consumer positions on complex regulatory issues.

Qualifications

  • Admitted to the Colorado bar or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar with good standing at start of employment.
  • Solid litigation experience, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Experience before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission or similar regulatory bodies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the UCA in contested proceedings before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.
  • Independently manage matters through all phases of administrative litigation, including strategy and issue identification.
  • Draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery requests and responses.
  • Prepare and present direct and cross-examination testimony with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prepare witnesses for hearings and conduct examinations before the PUC.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations and advise on legal risks and outcomes.
  • Prepare post-hearing briefs and handle appeals as assigned.
  • Collaborate with rate/financial analysts, economists, engineers, and other experts to develop evidentiary records.
