Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is seeking a Public Services Librarian for the AGSL to provide reference, instruction, and public programs. This role supports day-to-day AGSL operations, collaborates with faculty, curates collections, and engages with diverse patrons across campus and beyond.

Responsibilities include designing and assessing instruction, developing exhibits, supervising student workers, and serving on campus and professional committees to advance librarianship.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited school by date of employment.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in geography, history, or related area.
• Experience with special collections, cartographic collections, and academic/research libraries.
• Experience supervising student workers and creating exhibits.
• Familiarity with metadata standards for cartographic, rare book, and archival materials.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff.
• Oversees day-to-day functions of library operations or services.
• Designs, develops, delivers, and assesses instruction in multiple formats.
• Provides reference and research assistance.
• Promotes collections and services through exhibits, presentations, and programs.
• Directs training and supervision of student workers.
• Serves as liaison to disciplines and campus units for collections and services.
• Participates in committees to advance librarianship locally and nationally.
